Double Beans sundal  – Dry Lima Beans Salad

Double Beans sundal – Dry Lima Beans Salad is a legume salad, in which the buttery textured dry Lima beans are cooked & seasoned with Indian spices.

Double beans have a delicate flavor that complements a wide variety of dishes. Lima Beans are good source of cholesterol-lowering fiber & plant proteins. Furthermore, they are rich in Vitamin B-compled and minerals like iron, calcium & manganese.

Over to Double Beans sundal / Dry Lima Beans salad recipe from Home-making Delight… 

Serves – 2


Dried Double beans – 1 cup

Oil – 2 tblsp

Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Urad dal – 1 tsp

Hing/Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp

Curry leaves – few

Salt & Water as required

Cilantro for garnishing

Roast & Grind:

Jeera – 2 tsp

Coriander Seeds / Daniya – 2 tsp

Red Chillies – 1 or 2

Coconut – 4 tblsp

Preparation Method:

  1. Wash and soak dried double beans for 5 hours. Remove the shell or outer cover & cook it with salt in a pressure cooker or pan until soft.IMG_2524

  2. Dry roast the ingredients mentioned under “Grind & Roast” in the following order Coriander seeds, Jeera, Red chillies & coconut (Roast separately).IMG_25293. Heat oil in a pan. Once it’s hot enough add mustard seeds, Urad dhal, Hing, Chillies & curry leaves followed by the cooked double beans & saute it.IMG_2526

  3. Then, add the ground mixture to the sundal & toss it until mixed well. Garnish with cilantro and serve  your tasty Double beans sundal – Lima beans salad hot or warm.IMG_2532Tit-Bits:

  4. You can just steam cook the double beans when you soak it overnight.

  5. Soaking is not required when you use the fresh double/lima beans.
