Tips – Raw Recipes & Minimum cooking Recipes – Emergency Recipes

Let us pray for the speedy recovery of Tamil Nadu. We have a few Suggestions to survive in this heavy flood. Many of my friends have asked me to post a  few raw/quick recipes that would require minimum cooking/ingredients so that they can share it with their friends/families who are stuck inside their houses for a few days without any proper groceries. Also, we have provided a few home remedies/precautions that you can take against water-borne diseases and cold. We have just collected a few easy ones here. We hope this helps. Recipe Tips for Kids:

Pasteurized Milk (Refrigerated/Non-refrigerated) – Don’t worry about gas for boiling as you can consume it directly. Stock a few packets at home when you get a chance.

Milk Rice – Just mash the rice well and add milk to it. Add sugar/Jaggery and eat.

Water (6 months – 2 years) – Omam (Ajwain) leaves (1), Tulasi (Basil) leaves (4), beetle leaves (Vetrilai – 1/2), Jeera (1/4), salt (pinch) in 1 cup water. Bring it to boil, let it reduce to half cup, filter and give upto 3 tblsp twice a week.

Preventive Measures:

Jeera Water – Save rain water as much as you can (Direct rain water – Preferably 30 minutes after the downpour had started) and pressure cook it with Jeera for 4 or 5 whistles or allow it boil for 15-20 minutes. Allow it to cool down, filter the water & drink it.

Turmeric Milk – Add turmeric (1 tsp) & Pepper (1 tsp) to 1 cup of milk. Bring it to boil, filter it & serve it warm to get relief from cough & sore throat.

Water – Add dry ginger or ginger, Pepper, Jaggery & turmeric root in boiling water. Let it reduce to half, filter & drink the water.

To avoid dehydration – Add equal portion of salt & sugar in boiled water, mix well & drink it.

Omam/Ajwain/Carom Water – Available in stores. To prepare at home – Add Omam salt (Available in Ayurvedic Medical shop) (5g) in 500 ml of water. Bring it boil for 15-20 mins and allow it to cool. You can consume in directly or dilute it with water or by adding sugar (for Kids).

Nilavembu powder/ Kalmegh (available in ayurvedic shops) – Add 1 tsp of powder in 3 cups of boiling water. Let the water reduce to 1 cup, filter & drink to avoid dengue.

Quick Recipe Tips:

Bread sandwich – Wash & stuff some fresh veggies in between the bread slices. Add salt & pepper.

Jam – Soak raisins in water, Mash & spread the puree in bread. Add Honey if needed.

Pulses salad – Soak pulses (whichever you have in hand) in hot water, Pressure cook for 10-15 mins. Add salt & pepper according to your taste. You can stuff the same in bread slices & have it as a sandwich. If you have chat masala, you can add that also.

Fresh Leaves  –  Wash & eat the fresh leaves like Omam Leaves / Ajwain leaves/ Carom Leaves, Tulasi Leaves, Baby Neem leaves to prevent cold, cough & sore throat.

Wheat or Rava Kanji – Dry roast Wheat or Rava/sooji (1 tblsp), Add 1 cup of water and boil it until it’s cooked & gets thickened. Add milk, salt & sugar as per your need. It might be a good alternative for coffee or tea.

Sweet Chapathi – Mix wheat flour (1 cup), coconut (2 tblsp), Sugar (1 tbsp), Salt (as needed) with water to make the dough. Make small balls out of the dough and spread the dough with hand to make the circular form like chapathi. Toast it on the hot pan with ghee or oil.

Salad –  Add cucumber, Capsicum & grapes in a bowl. Prepare a dressing with curd, salt, pepper & honey. Toss the dressing well, refrigerate & serve.
