Veg ball pizza – Homemade Veggie Carrot Ball Pizza

Veg  ball pizza is a handmade, baked flat bread topped with veggies, onions, tomatoes, carrot balls & loads of cheese. Veg balls are prepared by cooking shredded carrots with spices and shaped in the form of balls. Veg ball pizza is the best option whenever you get a sudden craving for pizza. The white sauce used is very easy to prepare as it just requires the ingredients you have in your pantry.

Watching all those pizza commercials keeps on inducing my cravings for pizza. 😀 So, I thought I would prepare Pizza again at home and noticed that I did not have enough tomatoes to make the sauce. So, I decided to switch it to simple white sauce which we use to make pastas. It’s much easier to prepare & it tastes better too. They were showing Meatball Pizza in the commercial, but as I am a vegetarian, I had to replace it with some veggies. As I am out of fancy toppings and left with no option other than carrots (which I had reserved for making my favorite carrot ball gravy for the next day) I thought of making carrots balls as toppings for pizza. The sweetness of carrots with a hint from spices matches wells with the white pizza sauce. Tempting right???? Ok. Serves – 3-4


Pizza Dough:

All purpose Flour or Maida – 3 cups & some more for dusting

Salt – As needed

Warm Water – 1 & 1/2 cup or as required

Olive oil – 2 tblsp & for brushing

Active Dry Yeast – 7 g or 1/4 oz

For Topping – Onion (thinly Sliced) & Tomatoes (cut diagonally in circles), Kale (optional)

Mozzarella Cheese – 1 & 1/2 cup or as required

Carrot Balls:

Oil – 2 tblsp

Jeera / Cumin – 1 tsp

Onion – 1/2 cup (Finely chopped)

Ginger-Garlic Paste – 1 tsp

Green Chillies (2) or Crushed red chilly – 1/2 tsp

Carrot (Shredded) – 2 cups tightly packed

Bread Crumbs – 1/2 cup

Salt as required

White Sauce:

Butter – 3 tblsp

Bay Leaf – 1 (dried)

Garlic – 5-6 pods (Minced)

Maida or all purpose flour – 3 tblsp

Milk – 1 & 1/2 cup

Salt – 1/4 tsp

Pepper – 1/4 tsp

Preparation Method:

  1. Mix Flour, Salt & Yeast in a bowl and make the pizza dough by adding warm water. Add oil to smoothen the dough & allow enough time to rise.Veg ball pizza - HMD12. Heat oil in a pan. Add Jeera & once it splutters, add onions, Ginger-garlic paste, green chillies followed by shredded carrots. Add salt & let it cook.Veg ball pizza - HMD23. Add bread crumbs to the cooked carrot, mix it well and allow it to cool.

Veg ball Pizza - HMD34. Divide the carrot mixture into 6 equal portions & shape it together to make balls. Microwave the carrot balls for 2 minutes to make them firm.Veg ball Pizza - HMD45. For Making Sauce – Melt the butter in a sauce pan, add flour & stir constantly for a minute or so.Veg ball Pizza - HMD56. Add milk gradually to the flour whisking continuously without any lumps.

Veg ball Pizza - HMD67. Add bay leaf, garlic, salt & pepper and whisk over medium heat until the mixture thickens to sauce consistency. Remove bay leaf & garlic from the sauce.Veg ball Pizza - HMD78. Divide the risen dough into two equal portions (for 2 medium pizza) or  just roll the dough altogether (for 1 large pizza) to a flat disk with the rolling pin. Dust flour if required. Transfer the dough to the pizza stone or baking tray & brush the surface with olive oil.Veg ball Pizza - HMD89. Spread half portion of the sauce and top it with onions, tomatoes, carrot balls cut in halves & finally add generous amount of cheese.Veg ball Pizza - HMD910. Drizzle with olive oil & bake it in the pre-heated oven (at 400 F) for 15-18 minutes or until it’s cooked through. Serve warm.Veg ball Pizza - HMD11Tit-Bits:

  1. Spread the kale leaves (if you are using) on pizza after 10-12 minutes & drizzle olive oil over it to get crunchy crispy texture.

  2. Don’t prepare the sauce in advance as it might get solidified. If that happens add milk & stir constantly to get back to the desired consistency.
