Turmeric Milk – Home Remedy to cure sore throat and common cold
Turmeric Milk is a healthy drink prepared by boiling milk with turmeric (Haldi/Manjal), pepper, dry ginger (Sukku) & palm crystals, then filtered & served warm. It’s one of the best remedies for cold and sore throat. We are in the last half of the winter season during which we would frequently be suffering from common cold, cough & sore throat. This turmeric milk is the best home remedy for all those problems.

My mom used to prepare this Milagu Manjal Paal during winter to prevent catching up the cold, when we get the initial symptoms like sore throat and cough. Turmeric Milk is one of the easiest options to ease the irritation of cold & sore throat, as Turmeric has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. And, pepper is a known medicine to cure throat infection and a blood purifier. Slow boiling the spices in the milk brings out the flavor of the drink. Turmeric Milk Recipe- Home Remedy to cure sore throat and common cold
Turmeric Powder (Manjal thool / Haldi powder) – 3/4 tsp
Pepper powder (Milagu) – 1/2 tsp
Dry Ginger powder (Sukku) – 1/2 tsp
Milk – 1 & 1/4 cup
Palm Crystal (Panam Kalkandu) or Sugar – as per your taste
- Heat milk in a sauce pan. Add Turmeric powder, Dry ginger & pepper to it, mix well and bring it to boil.
When it starts to boil, add palm crystal and let it sit in simmer for 3-5 minutes. Stir in between for even heating.3. Filter the boiled milk to remove the residues and drink your healthy turmeric-pepper milk hot/warm to get relieved from cold and sore throat.
- Grease the sauce pan with ghee to prevent its bottom from burning.
You can also add Cardamom/Elachi powder (1/8 tsp) if you prefer.
If you are using pepper and dry ginger directly, then crush them well and use.
