Chennai Mini Marathon – September 11, 2016 – Marina beach
A Marathon is a long distance running event that covers exactly 42.195 kms i.e. 26.219 miles. Nowadays, Marathons are run all around the world but due to several constraints, the specified distance has been tweaked in Marathons. 🙂
There are so many Mini Marathons, Half Marathons, Mega Marathons happening in almost all the countries for several reasons. Not only Marathons are run to create an awareness on health & fitness but also they are run for several good causes like collecting funds for feeding poor ones, flood relief funds etc.
I have never been on a Marathon before. My uncle and I have been planning for a long time to go on a Mini Marathon to start with and then to go on normal ones, but we the plan never went live. For now, I have registered for a Cyclothon event conducted by my office and am looking forward to it. I have even got a bicycle from my uncle to practise with but never have done a dedicated practice yet. I have very less time left and the distance is very long, close to 40 km (Yep, 40 km is Long for a novice cyclothon participant like me :D). Let me start a proper practice from tomorrow and see how it goes. Keeping fingers crossed … 🙂
When time permits, I would write a separate post on how to train yourself for a Marathon / Cyclothon event. Participating an event like this without practising properly would never be fruitful and can cause adverse effects on your health. Also, while running a marathon, you must keep yourself well hydrated and energized by drinking more water, lemon juice, groundnut cakes, buttermilk, glucose, biscuits etc. To keep yourself motivated while practising, you can get a few friends to run with you or you can go to places like beaches/parks where you will feel happy and energized.
If you are a Chennaite, then do pay a visit at least once to Besant Nagar beach on a Sunday between 6AM to 9 AM. There is an event ‘Car Free Sundays‘ happening where you can enjoy the car free beach road for 3 hours during which health & fitness related activities like cycling, Yoga/Zumba, skipping, tug of war etc are being practised by people of all ages [FOR FREE]. 🙂 Don’t miss a small stall that sells healthy snacks/drinks like vallarai saaru, thoodhuvalai juice, paruthi pal, thinai payasam, Ulunthangali etc.
If you have been a veteran runner or a fitness freak, all your early morning and late evening runs will surely pay off on your 10Km Chennai Mini Marathon 2016. 🙂 The mere thought of taking a walk at the beach on a Sunday morning would just make us feel energetic and brisk. With 1000 co-runners to run alongside, you can get your fitness spirits and motivation high during such Marathon events. It’s time to put on your running shoes, guysss!!! 🙂

Also, if you are gearing up for the upcoming big event Chennai Mega Marathon (CMM) in December, 2016, then the Certificate obtained by completing the 1oKm run of Chennai Mini Marathon in the stipulated time will help you apply for Mega Marathon. The event is organized with Paramedics in case of emergency, washroom facilities within the even premises, Distance Markers and of course, with volunteers to guide you along the route & for everything else at the start & end points.
