Dawat-e-Dilli – Old Delhi Street Food Tour – A great food walk for the foodies

Hello there!!!

Street Food Tours / Food Walks are being conducted often all over the world wherein the guests can taste the varieties of local food and get to know more about the local cuisine and can experience what even five star hotels can’t offer. 🙂 Mostly, an experienced food guide would be traveling along the guests to help them understand the food, ingredients, heritage behind the food, etc,.

Can anyone possibly say ‘NO’ to the flavor busting Indian street food??? I guess not. Street foods are widely popular in India especially in the metropolitan cities. You can find food vendors in every nook and corner of the city serving hot food busily. I am always amazed about their display of snacks arranged brilliantly in layers especially Pani Puri and their quick cooking and serving nature. Next time, I should stop by and get them into talking on how they do it very fast. 😐

I know of many people who would travel a lot just to dine in their favorite places. My brother, a big foodie always roam around the city to find and taste yummy delicacies. I also have a few favorite spots like that, but I am so lazy to go to different places in a day and enjoy my favorite food in each place, though I would love to eat all my favorites in the same day. But, the laziness always wins. 😀

I am not sure who brought in this idea of ‘street food tour’  but whoever it is, he/she  must be a great foodie, I bet. 🙂 The very first street food tour that I went to was conducted in my workplace itself and we got to visit it during the break time. Around 30-35 shops were set up displaying famous food items from several regions of India and a few other nations. Whoa!! The very thought of it makes me drool now. 😀 The stalls were small but the dishes displayed were mouthwatering and the queue was very long in almost all the shops. Food items ranging from Madurai Jigarthanda, Chettinad Appam, Golgappa, Delhi Chaat items, Mothak varieties, Mumbai Vada Pav, Italian Pastas, Pizzas, Mexican Tacos & Burritos etc., were there. We were not able to get in all the queues and taste all those, so we just had few bites in a couple of stalls and came back. 🙁

Nowadays, so many food streets are set up in and around Chennai just to treat the foodies. All the family members can happily eat their favorite items together without any compromise. It would indeed be great for the people who are new to the place to have a food guide walking them through the stalls, explaining the nature and history of the food, explore the exotic ingredients and may be having a quick chit-chat with the chef about the food and click a few pictures of those delicacies. If you are visiting a new place, then you should include a food street tour as a part of your itinerary for it would help you get a new tasty experience. 🙂 It must be on your to-do list, especially if you are a foodie or food photographer or food stylist or a chef.
