Instant Sambhar Powder Recipe – DiY Mix
Instant Sambhar powder is a quick version of Indian curry powder that is usually made by roasting & grinding the spices together to prepare Indian vegetable stew or sambhar or even curries. Ran out of Sambar powder in the middle of making a meal??? No worries, this instant sambhar powder will help you make your sambhar extra flavorful in a jiffy without any hassle.
I was running low on Sambar powder as I had totally forgotten to prepare the sambar powder in bulk. Usually, my mom or aunt prepares and sends that to me once in a while. Having forgotten that I did not have the Sambhar powder, I planned our meal involving sambar and even started preparing that. Thankfully, I found that my aunt’s instant sambar mix recipe and it sure saved the meal. This instant sambhar powder is very easy to prepare and the freshly ground spice mixture will sure make your sambar more flavorful. With this Instant Sambar mix, you will never have to change your meal plans just because of the unavailability of Sambhar powder.

Instant Sambhar Powder Recipe – DiY Mix
Makes 3 tblsp (roughly)
Ingredients:
Red Chilly – 3 or 4
Jeera – 1 tsp
Chana Dhal – 1 tblsp
Fenugreek Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Coriander Seeds or Dhaniya – 1 tsp
Coconut – 1 & 1/2 tblsp (shredded)
Oil – 1 tsp
Preparation Method:
- Heat oil in a pan and roast the ingredients in the following order: Jeera, Chana dal, Fenugreek seeds & dhaniya until they are golden brown.
2. Then, add red chilly give a quick stir. Finally, add coconut and roast it gently. Switch off the flame and let it cool.
3. Grind the ingredients together in a mixer grinder to a fine powder.
4. Your Instant Sambar powder is ready to make your Sambar /Kuzhambu.
Tit-Bits:
- Let the ingredients cool completely before grinding. Otherwise, the powder might get clumped due to moisture. (Refer pic 🙁 ).
